Universitas Muhammadiyah Gresik (UM Gresik) continues to strengthen its international academic community with the arrival of two students from Thailand for the 2026/2027 academic year. Asma Yeesalaeh and Koyeemah Chema arrived in Gresik on October 14, 2026, and are set to begin their studies at UM Gresik.
Asma Yeesalaeh will pursue her studies in Islamic Religious Education (Pendidikan Agama Islam/PAI), while Koyeemah Chema will study Primary School Teacher Education (Pendidikan Guru Sekolah Dasar/PGSD). Their arrival reflects the opportunities available for international students to pursue higher education at UM Gresik while experiencing Indonesia’s academic environment and cultural diversity.
Studying in another country offers more than an opportunity to gain academic knowledge. It also allows students to experience a different culture, develop communication skills, build friendships across borders, and gain new perspectives through everyday interactions. For Asma and Koyeemah, studying at UM Gresik is an opportunity to learn in a new environment while discovering Indonesian culture and university life.
“I am happy to have the opportunity to study at UM Gresik. I hope to learn new things, experience Indonesian culture, and meet many new friends during my time here,” said Asma Yeesalaeh.
Koyeemah Chema also looks forward to making the most of her experience in Indonesia. “I am excited to begin my studies at UM Gresik. I look forward to gaining new experiences, learning more about Indonesia, and making unforgettable memories with the people I meet here,” she said.
Their arrival also highlights the role of the International Relations Office (IRO) in supporting UM Gresik’s international engagement and welcoming students from abroad. Through international student mobility, the university provides opportunities for cross-cultural interaction and the development of connections between students from different backgrounds.
The presence of international students contributes to a more diverse campus environment, where cultural exchange can take place through academic activities, student interactions, and shared experiences. These encounters allow students to learn not only from their courses but also from the perspectives and experiences of people from different countries.
UM Gresik welcomes Asma Yeesalaeh and Koyeemah Chema as they begin this new chapter of their educational journey. Their presence is expected to contribute to the university’s multicultural atmosphere and create opportunities for meaningful cultural exchange.
