Universitas Muhammadiyah Gresik (UMG) once again demonstrated its commitment to international humanitarian and community service initiatives through its participation in the Muhammadiyah Qurban at Eid al-Adha Festival in Yala, Thailand. Held in Yala Province, Thailand, on May 27, 2026, the program was the result of a collaborative effort between the Muhammadiyah Association of Thailand (MAT), the Special Branch of Muhammadiyah in Thailand (PCIM Thailand), and several Muhammadiyah Higher Education Institutions (PTMA) in Indonesia to promote the spirit of sharing and strengthen Islamic brotherhood across borders.

Through this initiative, two cattle were distributed as qurban animals to support Muslim communities in Thailand, particularly in Yala, one of the country’s largest Muslim population centers. The distribution reflected the spirit of sharing during Eid al-Adha while strengthening solidarity and Islamic brotherhood across national borders.

UMG’s participation in this program reflects the university’s commitment to global humanitarian initiatives while strengthening the role of Muhammadiyah higher education institutions in building international networks beyond academic collaboration, extending into social and religious engagement. Through the spirit of collaboration, this qurban program served as a meaningful platform to provide direct benefits to local communities while promoting the values of Progressive Islam advocated by Muhammadiyah.

The involvement of these institutions highlights the strong spirit of cooperation and solidarity among Muhammadiyah organizations in supporting international humanitarian initiatives. In addition to the distribution of qurban animals, the event served as an important opportunity to strengthen relationships between Muhammadiyah communities in Indonesia and Thailand. The participation of various Muhammadiyah institutions in a single collaborative program reflects a shared commitment to developing sustainable cooperation in education, da’wah, social development, and community empowerment.

For Universitas Muhammadiyah Gresik, participation in this international program is in line with the university’s vision of becoming a globally competitive institution. By supporting humanitarian activities across national borders, UMG continues to expand its international engagement and contribute positively to communities beyond Indonesia.

The program also represents the implementation of Al-Islam and Muhammadiyah values that emphasize social responsibility, generosity, and the strengthening of Islamic brotherhood. The practice of qurban is not only viewed as an act of worship and obedience to Allah SWT but also as a means of fostering solidarity and bringing happiness to others.

In the future, similar collaborations are expected to expand into other international initiatives focusing on education, community service, cultural exchange, and humanitarian activities that benefit global society.

Through the spirit of “Qurban Together, Blessings for All,” all participating institutions hope that this program will inspire continued efforts to spread kindness, compassion, and brotherhood beyond national borders while strengthening Muhammadiyah’s role as an Islamic movement that brings benefits to both the Muslim community and humanity as a whole.
