Gresik — The hall of SD Muhammadiyah 1 Kebomas (SD MURI) was filled with excitement and enthusiasm as students participated in the Hello Native: “Yaman Cultural Journey” program on Wednesday (13/05/2026). Held in collaboration with Universitas Muhammadiyah Gresik (UMG), the event featured UMG international student from Yemen, Azzam Hesham Abdulsalam Alhemyari, as a guest teacher for 4th and 5th grade students.

From the beginning of the session, students showed great curiosity and excitement while learning about Yemeni culture directly from Azzam. Wearing traditional Yemeni attire, he introduced various aspects of life in Yemen, including the language, daily habits, traditional foods, customs, and Middle Eastern culture.

The atmosphere became even more lively during the interactive session, where many students eagerly raised their hands to ask and answer questions. After the presentation, the event continued with a fun quiz about Yemeni culture, creating a cheerful and energetic atmosphere throughout the hall

One of the most memorable moments happened when several students were invited to try wearing traditional Yemeni head coverings and turbans. The students looked excited and happy as they experienced the traditional attire and took photos together with Azzam. This activity made the learning experience feel more engaging, enjoyable, and unforgettable for the participants.

Azzam shared that he was happy to introduce his culture and interact with the students of SD MURI. According to him, the students were active, confident, and highly enthusiastic about learning new things from different cultures.

“I am very happy to come and share about Yemeni culture at SD MURI. The students were very enthusiastic, active in asking questions, and made the learning atmosphere enjoyable. I felt warmly welcomed here,” said Azzam. Through this Foreign Teacher program, UMG international students once again demonstrated their contribution in bringing cross-cultural learning experiences directly to the community. Azzam’s presence not only created a fun and interactive learning environment, but also reflected UMG’s commitment to strengthening its international atmosphere and expanding global perspectives through inspiring educational activities.
