A strong atmosphere of cross-border academic dialogue was evident on Wednesday, 15 January 2026, as a strategic meeting brought together higher education institutions from Indonesia and Malaysia to initiate an international collaboration agenda focused on quality enhancement and global competitiveness. The forum served as a platform for exchanging ideas, aligning institutional visions, and reinforcing long-term academic commitment.
The key milestone of the event was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Universitas Muhammadiyah Gresik (UMG) and Universiti Technology Petronas (UTP), Malaysia, establishing a formal foundation for international academic and institutional cooperation.
The collaboration extended beyond a ceremonial agreement. The program continued with an international Focus Group Discussion (FGD) addressing comprehensive academic development, encompassing curriculum benchmarking at the program level alongside teaching and learning strategies. The discussion highlighted curriculum alignment, learning outcomes, and innovative pedagogical approaches to ensure relevance to global standards and international workforce demands.
Further collaboration was explored through an FGD on Research and Community Engagement (PKM), opening opportunities for joint research initiatives, international publications, and impactful community-based programs. Both institutions expressed a shared commitment to advancing knowledge production while contributing meaningfully to society.
As a symbol of mutual respect and institutional partnership, the agenda also included the exchange of official souvenirs, before concluding with the formal MoU signing as the cornerstone of a long-term and sustainable partnership.
Through this strategic initiative, Universitas Muhammadiyah Gresik reaffirmed its commitment to expanding international networks, strengthening the implementation of the tridharma of higher education, and fostering meaningful global collaboration.
