In commemoration of Isra’ Mi’raj and as part of Bulan Bahasa Kagumi (Kagumi Language Month), SD Mutu Kagumi Balongpanggangheld Roling Sigma Batch-9 on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at Masjid Al Huda, Balongpanggang, Gresik. The event was organized in collaboration with Universitas Muhammadiyah Gresik (UMG) and featured two international students of UMG as guest speakers.
The international students, Azzam Hesham Abdulsalam Alhemyari from Yemen and Waenurhasikin Waemae from Thailand, shared cultural insights and personal experiences from their home countries through an interactive cultural sharing session designed for elementary school students.
During the session, the speakers introduced various aspects of life in Thailand and Yemen, including climate and weather, traditional food, traditional clothing, housing styles, and daily social life. The activity was conducted in an open-question format, allowing students to freely ask questions about anything they were curious about regarding the two countries.

The students showed high enthusiasm by actively participating and asking questions about traditional houses, local cuisine, cultural attire, and the daily lifestyles of people in Thailand and Yemen. The interactive discussion created a lively and engaging learning atmosphere throughout the event.
In addition to cultural sharing, the session also included basic language practice. Waenurhasikin Waemae introduced simple Thai greetings and taught the students how to introduce themselves in the Thai language, while Azzam Hesham Abdulsalam Alhemyari guided the students to practice basic Arabic expressions, including greetings and asking about someone’s well-being. This language practice helped the students experience foreign languages directly from native speakers.
The event was warmly welcomed by the school community and attended by teachers, school staff, parents, and invited guests. Their presence and support contributed to the positive and inclusive atmosphere of the program.
According to the school, the Roling Sigma program is an annual activity that regularly invites native speakers or international participants. This year marked the third implementation of the program at SD Mutu Kagumi Balongpanggang. Through this activity, the school aims to broaden students’ global perspectives, encourage curiosity about other cultures, and foster openness toward international diversity from an early age. The collaboration between SD Mutu Kagumi Balongpanggang and Universitas Muhammadiyah Gresik reflects UMG’s commitment to strengthening international engagement and community outreach by actively involving its international students in educational and cultural activities.
