November 29, 2022, the International Relations Office of Universitas Muhammadiyah Gresik (UMG). carried out the 2nd day of the Short Indonesian Culture and Language Program for Foreign Speakers. The activities which were attended by 16 foreign students from various parts of the world, including the Philippines, Vietnam, Sudan, to Thailand took place with various agendas today including breakfast with Gresik’s special food, namely krawu rice wrapped in banana leaves and they were surprised because the food they eat has an interesting shape. They were surprised by the menu they ate today because it was the first time they had encountered food wrapped in leaves and had various menus in it. The next activity is learning Indonesian accompanied by Tri Yuli Ardiansyah S.Pd. one of the lecturers at the UMG, the material provided by Mr. Tri was about greetings, self-introduction, introduction to basic words in Indonesian. Foreign students are very enthusiastic in practicing Indonesian.

The next activity is learning to play traditional instruments from Indonesia, namely the saron, bonang, gong, ketipung and angklung. They enthusiastically took turns playing musical instruments and they were also assisted by elementary school teacher education students to play 1 verse of a Javanese song. They play happily and there are also students who learn to sing. After learning a musical instrument, proceed with learning to dance typical of Gresik, namely the “DamarKurung” dance with a ground floor pattern and dance movements that are distinguished between men and women. They were happy to be able to learn traditional dance to prepare for this dance performance at the closing ceremony.
