For Universitas Muhammadiyah Gresik students, learning does not stop within campus walls — it expands into international forums and real global experiences. This was clearly reflected on Friday, March 27, 2026, when two students from Universitas Muhammadiyah Gresik took part in the 3rd International Youth Talk 2026, an international online forum that brought together young participants from various countries under the theme “Engineering Wonders That Inspire Me.”
The program was organized by SEAMEO TED in collaboration with the China–ASEAN Technical and Vocational Education Cooperation Platform (CATECP). This event provided a global platform for students to exchange ideas, share experiences, and present innovative projects in front of an international audience.
Representing Universitas Muhammadiyah Gresik were Syaira Rizqi Putra from the English Education Department and Walid Mouhoudhoir from the Informatics Engineering Department. As part of Team 2, they presented their project titled MSOMOLUHA, a language-learning platform designed to go beyond conventional learning methods by integrating language, culture, and international exchange into one interactive system.
The idea behind MSOMOLUHA focuses on connecting three countries — France, Indonesia, and the United Kingdom — through a student exchange-based learning approach. The platform is not only designed to help users understand language structures such as grammar and vocabulary, but also to introduce cultural elements that are essential in real communication. These include communication styles in different countries, learning habits of students abroad, and practical guidance on how to adapt to new cultural environments. In addition, the platform also includes cultural fun facts to make the learning experience more engaging, relatable, and easier to understand for users from different backgrounds.
In sharing their experience, both students explained that developing MSOMOLUHA was not a simple process and required careful planning and continuous improvement. “One of the main challenges is both technical and practical. Technically, we have to build a multilingual system in Indonesian, English, and French, which requires a well-structured platform for managing content, tracking user progress, and creating interactive features,” said Syaira Rizqi Putra.
Walid Mouhoudhoir also highlighted another aspect of the challenge. “From a practical side, the challenge is how to make the platform effective, accessible, and still engaging for different types of users. We also need to align it with UKBI standards, which is quite challenging and requires additional adjustments,” he explained.
However, beyond those challenges, both of them emphasized that the process also brought many positive impacts. “Even though it’s challenging, it actually helps us improve our problem-solving skills and think more creatively in developing the platform,” they shared. “We also learned how to work better as a team and see problems from a broader perspective.”
They also mentioned that the development of MSOMOLUHA is still ongoing, especially in terms of design and user experience. “For now, the design part is not too difficult, but we believe it will continue to evolve as we improve the user experience and make the platform more comfortable to use,” they added. “Overall, these challenges are not something that holds us back, but instead become opportunities for us to innovate and grow.”
The event itself was attended by participants from various institutions, including Van Lang University (Vietnam), Universitas Surabaya, Politeknik Negeri Samarinda, and Universitas Muhammadiyah Gresik, along with many other participants from different countries. This created a dynamic and interactive discussion environment where ideas, perspectives, and experiences were exchanged across cultures.
Through their participation in this international forum, UMG students demonstrated not only their readiness to engage in global discussions but also their ability to contribute meaningful and relevant ideas. Their involvement reflects how students can extend their learning beyond the classroom and transform it into real contributions on an international stage.
