THE BEAUTIFUL HARMONY OF DIVERSITY IN THE CLOSING CEREMONY "CULTURAL CONCERT & EXHIBITION"

8 December 2022, Muhammadiyah Gresik University held an art and cultural performance entitled Cultural Concert and Exhibition at the Sang Pencerah Hall Lnt 8 UMG). Still part of the Short Indonesian Culture And Language Program For Foreign Speakers series, this event is also the closing ceremony of the 2022 international program. The International Relations Office of Muhammadiyah Gresik University initiated an activity involving 16 foreign students and 25 PMM-DN 2022 students.

It began with remarks from the program coordinator delivered by Nataria Wahyu S, S.Pd, M.Pd that this program was attended by 3 countries namely Sudan, Thailand and Vietnam. For 2 weeks they studied culture and arts in the city of Gresik, including learning Basic Indonesian Language, learning to play the Gamelan, learning to dance Damar Kurung, visiting the historic center of the city of Gresik, making Indonesian foods and painting Damar Kurung lamps.

Greetings from the Chancellor of Muhammadiyah Gresik University, represented by the Head of the IRO  Paulina, Spd, M.Pd, thanked all those who supported this event. With great confidence, the Chancellor said that each foreign student learns the beauty and warmth of Indonesia through this program and has good experience and gains a lot of knowledge about learning Indonesian culture and language. He hopes that through this program participants can have a better understanding and appreciate and care more about issues concerning language and culture.

"My respectful greetings to the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Hanoi, especially the Ambassador, Mr. Denny Abdi. My respects also go to the Chancellor of Phu Xuan University, Chancellor of FPT University, and Chancellor of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Vietnam. It is a great honor for us to accept delegations from these universities to join our program,” said Paulina representing Nadhirotul Laily, S.Psi, M.Psi Psychologist, Chancellor of UMG.

To enliven the Cultural Concert and Exhibition activities, 25 PMM DN students also had the opportunity to introduce Indonesian culture to international students by singing the song Wonderland Indonesia and performing the sinanggar tulo dance.

Tran Thi Khanh Vi, a student from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities Hanoi felt very happy to be able to take part in this activity. Joy, his greeting, conveyed a deep impression in every program activity that was attended by all foreign students, because the culture in Indonesia, especially in Gresik, is very unique and extraordinary. normal.

"There are many things that my fellow students and I can take from culture and diversity of arts as lessons in our lives, and we will never forget all the lessons that have been given by Universitas Muhammadiyah Gresik. My friends and I are very grateful to IRO for facilitating this activity and inviting us to learn Indonesian, learn historical buildings, art, and traditional food," he recalled.

The extraordinary Cultural Concert and Exhibition, namely collaborative performances from PGSD students and foreign students performing gambang flute and gamelan games as well as the Damar Kurung dance amazed the invited guests who attended, how could it not be that in the midst of so many activities and limited time for studying, they could all take part movements taught by the tutor during the program.

UMG leaders hope that cooperation between universities will continue, not only in cultural programs, but also in other potential implementations. Muhammadiyah Gresik University also gives certificates to foreign students who have participated in the program, as a form of appreciation to participants for the hard work and extraordinary learning that has been done (UMG Public Relations).
